Top 10 Craft Projects

Here at Planet Happy we hold weekly classes and craft activities on Saturday mornings from 10:30am - noon.

These crafty classes have become so popular, they have even been used as Birthday Party Themes!

Below you will find our 10 most popular craft classes from our 2009 calendar.

Basic Felt Sewing- Sew a small pillow out of felt! Children sew using plastic needles and yarn through pre-punched holes. After sewing their pillow they get to choose from different felt shapes and glue them to their pillow. These shapes can be used to make designs and even small pockets to keep their treasures.

Great for boys & girls 4 - 8 years

Lava Lamps- This one's for all you science geeks! Each child makes a lava 'lamp' in a large recycled plastic bottle by using the separating qualities of oil and water. After color, marbles and glitter are added, they put citric acid and baking soda in their bottles for a scientific over-the-top eruption!

Friendship Bracelets- Make you or your friend a true friendship bracelet! Children first learn three different braiding techniques to try on our natural hemp string. They then learn how to add various wood & clay beads to their braided bracelets. After all the bracelets are fixed with a clasp, it's time to keep, share or trade bracelets with friends! Great for boys & girls 6 - 12 years

Paint a Birdhouse- Paint a miniature wood birdhouse! Each child picks from different fun styles of natural wood birdhouses. Using non-toxic tempura paint, they get to paint their birdhouse with over a dozen colors to choose from! After painting, a special touch is added by gluing shiny gems to these one-of-a-kind birdhouses.

Felting Soap- Learn how the fibers in wool can be 'felted' together to create, you guessed it, felt! Using raw wool and natural bars of soap, each child makes two bars of colorful (and exfoliating!) felted soap to keep or give as gifts. This craft takes a fair amount of rubbing and is sure make you get really sudsy!

Great for boys & girls 4 - 12 years

Giant Pinwheel Project- Wind power to the rescue! Learn how to make a small pinwheel and even make a GIANT 5 foot pinwheel! Each child chooses what color to make their pinwheels and draws designs on the 'blades'. They then cut the 'blades' and learn how to fold them into a pinwheel. Using long wood sticks, pins, beads and some assistance, they are ready to be blown in the wind!

Great for boys & girls 3 - 10 years

Basic Paper Airplanes- Fly high, far or make loops! In this craft learn how to make three different styles of paper airplanes: the long-flying glider, curvy stunt flyer, and fast F 18 jet. Each child gets to choose their color and decorate each airplane.

After decorating, we test how each plane soars and experiment with weights and lifts.

Greats for boys & girls 5 - 12 years

Animal Finger Puppets- Put on a spectacular show! Learn how to design and make three finger puppets out of only colored paper, tape and glue. Children can give their puppets a special touch by adding feathers, pipe-cleaners, sticks, ribbon and more!

After they're done, we all put on a three-scene puppet show!

Great for boys & girls 3 - 8 years

Made by Me- Build your own scoots! Using wood bodies, axles and wheels each child puts together a racecar, truck, beetle or tugboat to take home. After building and decorating their vehicle of choice, we hold a race to see which ones go faster!

Great for boys & girls 2 - 6 years

Paint a Puzzle- It’s time to get puzzled! Each child gets a large blank puzzle to design their own picture on. Using fast-drying, non-toxic paints, they can paint the whole puzzle, part of it, or even glue gems onto it.  After the puzzles dry the race is on to see who can put their puzzle back together again!
